Inspection, Safety and Coordination

Inspection of the work of the construction contractor for progress, workmanship, and conformance with the contract documents and existing codes.

  • The Owner is promptly notified of any problems or issues observed. 

  • Owner provides necessary written notification and/or direction to the contractor. This does not include the authority to accept or reject work, to authorize changes to the terms and conditions of the contracts or obligate the Owner time or money. 

  • Recommendations are made to the Owner not the construction contractor. The limits of contractual authority are designated in writing by the Owner.

Field and progress reports are uploaded to the Project website each week. Field reports include the following:

  • The amount and types of work that have been completed through the end of the report week 

  • The number of modifications and costs of each 

  • The number of modifications pending with an estimate of cost for each

  • The percentage of the contract work completed 

  • The percentage of contract time used; the percentage of money spent

  • Documentation of controversial issues encountered or problems experienced by/with the construction contractor. 

  • The report may be written in general and abbreviated terms.

Coordination of meetings to be conducted at the project site. Meetings are chaired by the CMR. The CMR may prepare written meeting minutes for such meetings.


Technical assistance and support include:

  • Inspect and observe for applicable safety requirements. Attend safety meetings. 

  • Conduct fact-finding and issue clarifications to the contractor.

  • Receive, log, and review submittals for completeness and accuracy. 

  • Assist in resolution, draft response, track, and follow up on requests for information (RFI). 

  • Assist in resolving disputes that may arise during the interaction between the construction contractor and the Owner.  

  • Coordinate critical point, special, beneficial, and final inspections by design staff or other inspectors so work is approved in a timely and efficient manner. 

  • Coordinate Special Inspections (STSI) with the contractor. Ensure inspections are completed in a timely manner. 

Weekly telephone conference calls with the Owner and other parties as necessary. The purpose of these calls is to update the Owner and other project team members on the work progress, address outstanding project issues, and coordinate upcoming work activities.
